New York City is to reopen a men’s rehabilitation centre and reopen its male facility for male patients to access, as part of a national initiative to address the gender-based violence that is endemic in the city’s men’s facilities.

The new centres will open from October 10 and open to male patients on November 14.
The first men’s centre opened in New Jersey in 2013, and the first men-only one opened in Washington, DC, in 2016.
The New York Health Department announced in a press release last month that it will reopen the New Orleans Men’s Centre after the federal government closed it in January.
“Our primary focus has been to focus on the men’s community, and it is with this focus that we have been able to achieve the vision for the New Orleanians Men’s Health Center to be a facility where men’s needs are addressed and addressed in a way that does not compromise the health and well-being of our men,” said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
New Orleans has had the largest number of violent incidents in the United States in recent years, with more than 20 people killed in 2015 alone.
“This is an important step in our efforts to ensure that the New Otans Men’s Center is a place where men feel safe and that their health is cared for,” said Landrieau.
“I applaud the City of New Orleans for taking this important step, and we are grateful for the dedicated staff and the support that we received from the National Men’s Mental Health Alliance.”
“We will also be hosting the next event in the program of the National Health Alliance in October,” he added.
New York City has long been a leader in addressing the violence against men and the department announced last year it would reopen the men-focused Men’s Treatment Centre in 2018.
It reopened in 2019 after a two-year shutdown.
